We have owned this refrigerator for less than four years now. A few days ago the unit began to fail again. It could no longer maintain an adequate freezer or fresh food temperature. It appears that the compressor has failed again. This will be the 3rd compressor failure for the unit. GE replaced the original compressor with a new identical unit the first time. Then it failed again. GE then replaced it with a newer compressor that operates with Butane as the coolant; which meant that other cooling system components needed to be refitted as well. Now that new unit appears not to be working, I am hoping GE will do the right thing and diagnosis the problem and fix it on their coin, I am not sure I want to throw more good money after bad.

Beautiful design and a good sized refrigerator and freezer with several arrangement options. While we love the ice & water dispenser on the outside door v inside the unit, it doesn't make enough ice for our family. Also, the gasket around the inside refrigerator door won't stay on as if it's too big for the door so that has to be replaced.

A few things that I was very disappointed with. The quality of the refrigerator feels very cheap. Whenever I open the freezer, it feels flimsy and wobbly. The plastic inserts are solo flimsy and feel cheap. The the three buttons of ™water, crushed, cubed™ feel very cheap and you can see all of them move when one is selected. rate of water flow from the dispenser is anemically slow and takes forever to fill cups. Not sure I would purchase another product like this.

Overall it™™s been solid. Good layout and looks nice. Impossible to figure out the photos option / upload although it™™s something I don™™t really care to have / need anyway. Biggest issue I have is - there™™s no ability to auto fill anything with the water dispenser. The display reads out the amount of water dispensed in real time a ™precise fill™ seems redundant / useless and you have to keep the lever pushed in the entire time you™™re filling. Wish I could set a volume I wanted filled and walk away while it fills and stops at the preset amount.

I™™ll be honest 14 months touch screen broke no help from ge. Replaced screen with updated part and touch screen works but reboots when trying to switch from crushed to cubes, Hot water tank stopped working. Have to buy ge filter with QR code. Not impressed with 3 thousand dollar fridge. I™™ll pass on anything ge from now on .

This is one of the worst refrigerators for the price. Ours is loud, the touch screen stopped working, the drawers are hard to clean, the temperature control and light on the bottom drawer have gone out. The air flow causes condensation on cooler items frequently. I do not recommend this product.

I have no problem with my GE CafÃ refrigerator. It™™s a wonderful product. My biggest gripe is no owners manual operation manual in the unit. I purchased a brand new home in Arizona. I have all GE monogram appliances. I have manuals for everything except my refrigerator very very, very, very, very, very, very, very frustrating and unfair to the consumer. I tried to get one from the company. I talk to person in charge of customer service, public affairs, media affairs, and got nowhere they would not mail me in the mail. They said I had to download only very bad system very unfair to the consumer who does not have the capability of downloading printing The operation manual very disappointed in this item Paul B.

We purchased this fridge to upgrade from a counter depth to a full size because we wanted more space, liked the look and features. First thing we noticed is the drinking water is not dispensed nearly as cold as our older fridge because their is no water reservoir tank, only a piece of tubing stored in the door, so it does not provide cold drinking water without having to add ice. Ok, inconvenient but I could live with it. Today, after less than 24 months of use on a $3500 refrigerator, it stopped working properly and requires service costing $100s in lost food. Thankfully I purchased an extended warranty, although the closest appointment is in 7 days and cost me an additional $300. I know not to expect 30+ years of service like they used to make them, but less than 2 years for $3500 is pathetic. Buyer beware!

Buy Beware of Fridge and GE Cares Terrible Service

Bought this fridge this past spring 2025. Within two months, it started making a very loud noise. We called GE Cares on July 3rd to request someone come out to look at it. The soonest appointment we could get was July 14th. On July 7th, someone from GE Cares called to confirm a window of 12pm-5pm for service on July 14. On July 14th, my husband took the day off work to be home to meet the service technician. The service technician never showed. We called GE Cares who gave a half-assed apology, but no explanation for the no-show. Now we have another appointment on July 21st. We'll see if they show. Meanwhile, our fridge is ridiculously loud and it's only three months old. Buyer beware of the fridge and GE Cares crappy customer service.

This is our second GE cafe in 10 years. The first one quit working in 4 years time. Ge offered us a new one half price because it was just out of warranty, which I appreciated. Fast forward another 4-5 years same issues. Food freezing and then not cooling at all. Lost hundreds of dollars of produce due to freezing issue in the crisper drawers. I had to replace the fan inside and now probably the heating defrost, as it's still freezing my food. The lights inside are also dimming and need to be replaced. If you want a nice looking fridge that only lasts 4 to 5 years then this is it but for the price tag it should last at least 8 years.

I purchased my Cafe refrigerator specifically for the hot water dispenser feature. Unfortunately, it does not work and requires maintanance as per screen prompt. I followed the troubleshooting guide and was able to reset the fridge and get the dispenser all the way through to the heating stage. Then. I received an error message that the unit required service. I called the manufacturer and was told that I needed to find someone to fix it and they would reimburse me. I have not been able to get someone from Ferguson, Virginia Beach to come repair it because they only sell appliances in VA, they don't have anyone torepair them. Please advise me on how I can get my new fridge serviced.

We have owned our Cafe French door refrigerator with hot water dispenser for approximately 8-9 years now. It has been a really good appliance and has required only one repair thus far. There is an evaporator fan that helps move cold air up into the refrigerator section from the freezer (as I recall the repair person explaining). That fan failed and cooling began to suffer. The part and repair were not overly expensive (less than $250, as I recall). More recently (during the summer months), we noticed issues with the temperatures not remaining at recommended levels (0 deg for freezer; 37 deg for refrigerator) and louder than usual operation. We had a repair person look at the unit; he indicated the compressor was drawing significantly higher amperage than normal, which is apparently an indication of imminent compressor failure. Needless to say, compressor replacement is really expensive and is likely a sign of other failures with age. We continue to use the refrigerator and it has been keeping normal temps. Another indicator we are nearing the end is a persistent leak from the ice maker dispenser which we have heard is due to a weakening dispenser flap. The hot water dispenser continues to operate as it should and my wife makes several cups of tea each day. It is an amazing feature and one that has us thinking very seriously of buying another...which is why I'm on this site reading other reviews. My wife loves the hot water dispenser and as far as I know, there are no other brands that have this option. I believe if someone came to me and said, "I'm looking for a new refrigerator with a cool industrial, professional look," I would recommend they give this consideration...which is exactly what we are doing. This is a really nice looking refrigerator, as is the range and dishwasher that match it. It is still in the running as a replacement for itself, although I would give other round bar/industrial/professional refrigerators a look IF they had a hot water dispenser. I hope this review is helpful to others looking.

GE needs to make changes given cost of this fridge

I originally bought predecessor to this model. It failed 1 week out of warranty. It was only b/c place I bought it put pressure on GE that it was replaced. GE had said there was nothing they could do which is unacceptable when it had only been used for about 5 months. I then had to replace the replacement b/c after too few years things started going wrong with it that were expensive. So, new one arrived very recently. I HATE the fact that the hot water dispenser talks CONSTANTLY and this cannot be disabled. most of the time I don't use it b/c the sound drives me absolutely crazy. Secondly, i had the cabinet in my kitchen modeled around the size of the fridge. I apprears that they have changed the dimensions only marginally but enough so that the cabinet doors scrape the top of the fridge. So, I don't know if the dimensions listed are inaccurate or not but they seem to be. All up, GE needs to work on reliability and allow customers to decide whether they need unending safety warnings. I would never have bought this fridge if I had known fridge delievered ths message for whole 6 minutes or so water is heating. I also find it unacceptable that GE is too cheap to provide a printed user manual or to provide a bypass plu which is necessary if you don't want to buy their water filters.

Loved my GE Cafe refrigerator. But as soon as it hit the 5 year mark, things are starting to fall apart. The freezer is building ice and the evaporator broke. The parts are out of stock on GE website so now I am stuck with a non functional freezer that can™™t be repaired. My prior GE lasted 20 years. Very disappointed.

I like my new refrigerator. However, I am concerned with the icemaker. On several occasions the ice produced gets stuck in the upper part of the ice compartment. I have to open it to release the ice so that it continues with the ice production.

Unable to maintain temperature

2 years into ownership on this highly priced premium product. We are not satisfied. The fridge is unable to maintain consistent temperatures. Our food is regularly over 42-45 deg when we have the fridge set to 36. We monitor the temperature inside the fridge with 2 separate thermometers. One is a data logger I use for work which is submerged in water for consistent measurement. 2 fridge openings cause the temp to drift 8-10 degrees and it takes 8 hours to recover. It's unacceptable. In addition, the stainless always shows finger prints and smudges. It's impossible to keep it looking clean.

The features on this model are far and above what one would expect from a refrigerator. The in the door hot water feature is great for a quick cup of tea etc. The twin temps is something I wasn™™t expecting. What a great appliance.

After 1 year the refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling, had it repaired twice still it wouldn't work. This is a $3,700.00 refrigerator!!! Had two warranty's and it took 8 months to finally get a replacement. The system in place for helping the customer when an appliance fails is totally frustrating and wastes time and money of the customer. I would NOT buy this product.

Unit makes a tremendous amount of noise. Fan rattles very badly in the back. Tubing bundle That shows the water completely froze and icemaker/water dispenser stopped working. Has been two months and little response from local company where I bought it. Water maker is too slow for me to even use it. Other than that the unit looks stylish and there is lots of space inside. Overall major disappointment for a huge amount of money.

DO NOT BUY. After only one month past the warranty expiration the display panel crapped out. Mind you this fridge is only 13 months old. They won™™t cover it and now I have to pay someone to come and fix it. Save yourself the headache.

Original compressor burned out in the first year, changed under warranty to a new compressor and different refrigerant. Technician acknowledged that GE put a factory installed incompatible compressor with the new eco friendly refrigerant. Repair was to install correct compressor. Went without this fridge for 2 weeks. NOW 1 year later the inside lights all went out and is out of warranty. Stay away from this model and GE!!

Overall unit is very nice. Super quiet. Favorite feature is measured amounts of water, which is verified accurate. To do this better they should have just had you push a button once to fill the container to desired amount instead of holding in the dispenser. Also the slide out feature for the dispenser is a hit but it™™s cheap material that sticks a bit when pulling out or pushing in, and will start to show finish degradation from harder water. For this price point they should made it all out of stainless and used a surer mechanism to slide the shelf out and back in. The hot water feature is once again a great idea but is terribly executed. It takes forever to heat the water up to full temp and then the most you get is 8oz. I can heat water faster, in greater quantities, and more precisely with my Breville water heater pitcher for teas. Bottom line, there are many great ideas on this unit that would make this five stars had they executed it better. The devil is always in the details.
